We are very saddened to tell you that our friend and colleague documentary filmmaker and producer Philip Brooks has passed away this month, after a battle with hepatitis. Among his many films are THE LIFE AND TIMES OF SARA BAARTMAN - "THE HOTTENTOT VENUS", IT'S MY LIFE, 6000 A DAY, and THE PERFUMED GARDEN. An obituary published in the French newspaper Liberation is available on our website at: http://www.frif.com/new2003/brooks.html.

J. Hoberman of the Village Voice has named LA COMMUNE (Paris, 1871) the best film of the year! In his words, the film is a "visually spare, conceptually rich analysis of revolutionary euphoria ... [A] liberating, wonderfully foolish historical spectacular!"
